In Loving Memory of Thomas Edward Hedquist

December 4, 1942 – April 25, 2025

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Thomas Edward Hedquist, a man whose kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for his family illuminated the lives of all who knew him. Thomas passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at Percy’s Place in Miramichi, New Brunswick, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, to the late Albert and Lena (Preston) Hedquist, Thomas was a pillar of strength and integrity. For 42 years, he served as an Industrial Electrician at Repap Pulp and Paper Mill, where his dedication and impeccable safety record were a testament to his work ethic and pride in his craft. A fervent Montreal Canadiens fan, Thomas’s enthusiasm for the game was infectious, bringing joy to countless shared moments with family and friends. He was also an avid supporter of our local baseball and hockey teams, finding immense joy in cheering for their athletes.

A lover of nature, Thomas found peace in the quiet beauty of the outdoors. In his younger years, he relished hunting deer and moose. He took delight in leisurely drives through the landscapes he held dear. His commitment to sobriety, maintained with grace for 55 years as a member of the Chatham AA group, was a source of immense pride for his family and a reflection of his quiet strength.

Thomas’s heart belonged to his family, whom he cherished deeply. Married to his beloved Susan (Hersey) Hedquist for 62 beautiful years, their enduring love was a beacon of hope and devotion. He was a devoted father to daughters Theresa Hedquist (Ulysse) of Miramichi, Sandra Theoret (John) of Calgary, and his cherished late daughter, Valerie. The family finds solace in the tender belief that Thomas and Valerie are now reunited, their bond unbroken in eternity. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jonathan (Nicholas) and Jordan (Hannah), his sisters, Sandy Caldwell (Wayne), Judy Callman, and Linnea Evans, his special niece, Patricia Shields, as well as several cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, his sister-in-law, Joan Goodin, and brother-in-law, Bob Hersey.

Thomas was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie; sister, Alberta Brown; brothers, Clifford and Jackie Hedquist; and brothers-in-law, Don Callman, and Jim Evans.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, with The Reverend Father David Rioux as celebrant.

As expressions of sympathy, the family kindly requests donations to MORE Services, Miramichi, or the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, causes close to their hearts.

The family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to Dr. Gerard and Judy Losier, and the nursing team at Percy’s Place, for giving Thomas the honour of spending his final hours in such a loving and peaceful haven. Also, the family would also like to extend a special thank-you to beloved family friend, Kelly Adair-Godin, for the love and comfort she showered upon Thomas during his final hours. This will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, telephone (506) 773-3492. Messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca.
