Every year the City of Miramichi coordinates the Gerry Cormier Memorial Charity Golf Tournament and the proceeds are distributed to worthy community groups. Cormier was a big supporter of community charities and music projects including Sistema. He was re-elected by a huge margin in his last election and was credited with unifying City Council and leading the City of Miramichi through some tough times in years after an economic downturn in the city. He died a few months after he was elected in June 2016. (LINK)
