A young eagle rescued last spring from Beaubears Island in Miramichi has officially returned to the wild!
Â
After being found malnourished in spring 2024, the eagle spent nearly a year in care at the Atlantic Wildlife Institute, gaining strength and maturity. Originally set for release last fall, the timing wasn’t right—so under the guidance of wildlife experts and in consultation with Mi'gmaq partners, the decision was made to continue care through the winter.
Â
On May 5, 2025, the eagle was released in the park—a location chosen for its abundant food sources, space, and natural conditions suited to young eagles learning to navigate the wild. We're grateful to the Atlantic Wildlife Institute and to the Mi'gmaq organizations who were involved throughout the process.
Â
Thank you to all who helped this eagle soar once again.
