Michael K. Gouchie

  • Jan 15, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Michael K. Gouchie announce his peaceful passing on January 14, 2026, with his family by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Earl Gouchie and Vesta (Wilson) Gouchie.

Michael had a long career as an industrial mechanic, something that he loved doing.  He was always happy to be working, whether it be at the former Repap and UPM-Kymmene mill, working in Alberta in the oilsands, or doing small jobs in his retirement for his neighbours and friends with his well-used “skid steer” and tractor.

Mike’s greatest joys, however, were his grandchildren.  He was a devoted grandfather, and many of Jaxon’s friends called him “Gramps” as well.  His granddaughter, Desiree, and his grandson, Jaxon were his life.  During his days off and in retirement, he spent most of his days either visiting Desiree and taking her shopping with Nan, or fly fishing at the camp when she was younger, or tinkering in the garage and yard with Jaxon and teaching him everything that he knew about machines and vehicles.  He also enjoyed his last years with his partner, Robin.

Mike was a man of faith in God, believing that helping his family, friends, and neighbours was his greatest mission.  He was kind to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Jeanne (Martin) Gouchie, who passed away in 2016, and who was always in his heart.

Mike will be lovingly remembered and missed by his children, Andrea Gouchie and Jeffery Gouchie; as well as sister, Shelley Cobb (Stephen); and his brother, Bill Gouchie.  He leaves behind his granddaughter, Desiree Quigley; and his grandson, Jaxon Gouchie.  Mike also leaves a legacy of love to his nieces and nephews, brother-and sisters-in-law, and aunts and uncles.  He will also be missed by his good friends Kenny and Janice Walsh, and Kristen and Nick Lawrence, who were so generous of their time, help, and hearts.  He is predeceased by his father Earl; mother, Vesta; and brother, Kirk.

Following Mike’s wishes, there will be...
