The death of Robert Matchett, partner of Germaine Whelan, occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 68. Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the son of the late William and Doreen (Esson) Matchett.

Besides Germaine, Robert is survived by sisters: Peggy Butler (Eldon) of Nelson, NB, Cindy Matchett (Odell) of Chatham Head, NB, Paula Amoyett (John Paul) of Nelson, NB, Patsy Matchett (Paul) of Chelmsford, NB; brothers: Kenny Matchett (Lisa) of Newcastle, NB, Paul Matchett (Vera) of Bay-Du-Vin, NB; adopted sister: Susan McIntyre (late Sunny) of Chatham, NB; he is also survived by Germaine’s children and her grandchildren: Brittney Sutherland, Hannah Whelan, Brooke Casey, who he adored very much; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by brothers: Stephen and Gary.

As per Robert’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church at 11 o’clock with Fr. Anthony Das Papu officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
