It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond (Pappy) Robert Taylor of Newcastle, NB, on November 16, 2025, at the age of 75. Ray departed this life peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. Born in Newcastle, NB, Ray was the son of the late Robert and Kathleen “Kay” (Driscoll) Taylor.

Ray was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10, where he served as a bartender for over 25 years. Ray was also recognized for his passion for sports and known for his thunderous calls and polished shoes on the field as a senior league baseball umpire.

Ray will be greatly missed and is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Susan (Knowles) Taylor; his pride and joy, his children: Melissa RN and Corporal Robert Taylor (Heather); sisters: Donna (Joe), Betty (Marc), Carolyn (Larry), Rose, Judy, Hazel, Theresa; brother: David; grandchildren: Ledger, Easten, Lydia, Evelyn and Isaac and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Besides his parents, Ray is predeceased by an infant brother: James Allen.

At Ray’s request there will be no visitation, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Michael’s Basilica on a day and time to be announced. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
