With broken hearts, the family of Elsie Mildred (Wareham) Upham, wife of Jack Upham, announce her passing at the age of 87 on January 9th, 2026.

Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on March 28th, 1938, to Harold Sr. and Evelyn (Tucker) Wareham, Elsie was one of six children to be raised in the picturesque narrows of the St. John’s harbour on Fort Amherst Rd.

Elsie met the love of her life, Jack, in St. John’s while he was posted there for the Royal Bank, and they were married on January 14, 1961. Together, they would go on to raise two children, moving across the country and living in Montreal, QC; Ottawa, Perth, and Stittsville, ON; Harvey Station, Newcastle, and finally Chatham, NB — where they’ve lived for the past 51 years. She was a homemaker and attended St. Andrew’s United Church.

Elsie was a kind and gentle soul. She loved feeding the birds; she loved her dogs; going for walks on the beach in search of beach glass, playing cards at the cottage, travelling, cheering on her children and granddaughter in their sports, watching curling, snowmobiling in her younger years, Christmas traditions, making family dinners, and being surrounded by her loved ones. And above all, she loved the role of being “Nan” to her darling granddaughter, Lauren — her pride and joy.

Elsie is survived by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Jack Upham; daughter, Connie Green (Gerry), and granddaughter, Lauren Green, of Miramichi, NB; son, Tim Upham (Louise Landry and her son, Corey), of Dieppe, NB. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Wareham, of St. John’s, NL; her honorary granddaughter, Ayoung (Anna) Jung, of Seoul, South Korea; cousins, nieces, nephews, loving friends, and neighbours.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Harold Jr. and William ‘Bill’ Wareham; sisters, Daphne Dillon and Elizabeth Marsh; and sisters-in-law, Bertha Wareham, Elizabeth ‘Lib’ Wareham, and Joy ....
