The death of Donald “Don” Swasson of Esgenoôpetitj, NB, occurred on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Miramichi Hospital at the age of 71. Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the adopted son of the late Mary Ann and Frederick Ward. He was a retired Supervisor with the Trap Net Operations in Esgenoôpetitj. Donald loved collecting Boston Bruins Hockey Memorabilia as well as model cars.

Donald is survived by his half-sister: Sylvia Stancliffe of USA; sister-in-law: Joan Mary Ward of Esgenoôpetitj, NB; niece: Carla Ward and nephews: Darryl Ward and Kim Ward.

The family will receive visitors at Jardine Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 3-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Esgenoôpetitj, NB on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 11 AM with Father Peter Aloo officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery later in the spring.
