JMH and MVHS battle for River Bowl

Tommies defeat Pulamoo to take 2nd Annual River Bowl. Both teams back in action next weekend with double header against teams from St. Stephen and Sussex.

The 2nd annual River Bowl was played yesterday between JMH and MVHS high schools.  It is the second year for each school in the NBIAA 10 man Football League.  The game was attended by about 400 fans and played in sunny, perfect conditions.

The Tommies won the game 52-0, and their speed was the deciding factor.  Garyth McLean and Jared MacDonald was alomost unstoppable, while the Pulamoo were missing the speed of last year’s standouts Ciole Trepanier and Mitchell Hallihan.  Several Pulamoee starters graduated in 2016.

The game began with a flash of speed from McLean (27) who returned the opening kick-off the entire distance of the field, but the score was nullified by a blocking penalty at the MVHS 20 yard line.  McLean went on to score two more times in the game, using his speed to make tackles on defence and also elude tacklers on offence.

Jared MacDonald was a standout for the Tommies last year, and was the main threat for the team in their first game this year.  MacDonald looked like he was stopped on several plays, but managed to change direction and take advantage of good blocking to score three times.

The Tommies and Pulamoo both play agin next weekend as MVHS takes on St, Stephen at 3:30, and the Tommies play Sussex at 1 pm.  Both games take place at the MVHS field.
