Our loving father, husband, and grandfather, Paul Terrance Brennan, of Miramichi, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home at the age of 72.
Paul was born in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, and moved to Saint Hubert, Quebec, at the age of two. In 1969, Paul and his family relocated to Chatham, New Brunswick. After completing his final year of high school in 1970, Paul returned to Montreal and worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway before deciding to move back to Miramichi. The following year, he began his studies at St. Thomas University in Fredericton. It was during his first year of university that he met his future wife, Patricia (Patty), and they married on August 31, 1974.
In 1976, upon graduation with his Bachelor of Arts and Education degrees, Paul returned to Chatham and spent 33 years educating and enriching young minds. He spent 3 years at Chatham Head School, 17 years at St. Michael’s Elementary School, and then 13 years at Dr. Losier Middle School. Throughout his teaching years, he lived by and embraced his motto, “If you are good to the children, they will be good to you.”
Paul was a loving husband, father, and proud grandfather. He never went to sleep without a goodnight hug and saying, “I love you.” He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, playing cards, chatting over coffee, telling classic dad jokes, listening to music, and playing guitar. Paul was also a very skilled woodworker, always busy building furniture, the family gazebo, and even his own guitar. We will forever cherish our memories of his love and devotion, and we are deeply grateful for the comfort and support shown by friends, family, and caregivers during his illness.
Paul is survived by his wife of 50 wonderful years, Patty (Whitty); three daughters: Erin Carter (Brent) of Napan, New Brunswick, Carrie (Jamie Leggatt) of Miramichi, New Brunswick, and Jaclyn Farrer (Darren) of Fredericton, New Brunswick; two sons: Michael (Michelle Boyd) of Barrie, Ontario, and Matthew (Emily) of Moncton, New Brunswick; Grampy and Poppy to nine grandchildren: Mackenzie (Sam Haché), Tristan, Riley, Cameron, Chloe, Avery, Harrison, Layla, and Jude; one sister, Gail Trevors, of Alberta; three brothers: Don (Pat) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Carl of Montreal, Quebec, and Rick of Costa Rica; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Lorena; Patty’s parents, Frederick and Katherine Whitty; sisters, Patsy and Tammy; and sisters-in-law, Diane Brennan and Mary Susan Gregan.
Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Reverend Father John Fraser will be the celebrant at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery following the Mass.
Paul was a longstanding and active member of the MARTA Branch of NBSRT. The family requests that Paul’s fellow teachers and retired teachers gather at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, prior to the Mass at St. Michael’s Basilica, for designated seating during the service and the formation of an honour guard afterward.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Michael’s Basilica would be appreciated by the family.
