It is with great sadness that the family of Mercy MacDonald announces her passing on September 4th 2025, at the age of 91 in the City of Miramichi, New Brunswick.
Mercy was born on June 7th 1934, to Rose Ellen and Robert Blythe Freeston in Rouyn, Quebec. Mercy was named at that time as Sarah Lillian Freestone and had four other siblings: Phyllis, Harold, Dorothy, and Sybil. Later in her young life around the age of 10, she was placed in a God-Fearing home of Albert and Eliza Barnhart in Timmins, Ontario, where she was raised and named Mercy Barnhart. She had two other siblings: Betty and Gordon.
On January 29th 1955, Mercy met the love of her life, Cecil Ronald MacDonald in Toronto, Ontario. They raised four children in Callander, Ontario: Beth Taylor (Elwood), Celia MacDonald (Glen Wright), Kim Bystrom (Steve), and Albert MacDonald (Dawn). Mercy also had 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
In 1995, they moved back home to Bay Side, New Brunswick, and later to Miramichi.
Mom, was a quiet person who loved to knit and bake apple pies. Her true love was the gospel story which has sustained her throughout the years, feeding her soul long after her health had left her.
Mercy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Cecil; and her brother, Gordon. She is also predeceased by her son-in-law, Glen; grandson, Scott Ramsden; and great granddaughter, Zoey McDonald.
A special thank you to all the staff at Shannex Bridgeview Hall who looked after Mom (Mercy) over the years and provided caring, loving support.
Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, on Monday evening, September 8, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Bayside Christian Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
