Mathias Joseph Duplessis of Miramichi, New Brunswick, and formerly of Baie-Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on January 10, 2025, at the age of 72.

Born in Eel River Bridge, New Brunswick on June 23, 1952, he was the son of the late Joseph and Barbara (Mazerolle) Duplessis.  He worked at the Peat Moss plant, and attended Sainte Anne’s Catholic Church.

Mathias is survived by his sister, Rita Adams of Baie-Sainte-Anne, NB; three brothers: Robert (Lorraine) and Edward (Leoda) of Baie-Sainte-Anne, NB, and Edgar of Pointe-Sapin, NB; as well as nieces: Barbara, Joanne, and Cathy; step-niece, Paula; and nephew, Robert.  He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Helen (Thompson) Duplessis, six brothers: Alphonse, Louise, Philbert, Lionel, Francois, and Lawrence.

At the request of the family, there will be no visitation.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Sainte-Anne’s Catholic Church, 5351, Route 117, Baie-Sainte-Anne, NB, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 4 PM, with The Reverend Father Jean Belisle as Celebrant.  Interment will be in Sainte-Anne’s Catholic Cemetery later in the spring.
