We Remember JANICE SWAIN

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Janice Winifred Swain of Lutes Mountain, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the age of 69.

Born and raised in Miramichi, former village of Nelson, New Brunswick, Janice is the daughter of the late Bernard and Edith Swain.

Janice was a passionate and dedicated LPN who found great purpose in her work in the Emergency Room at the Moncton Hospital. She was known for being able to bring a sense of lightness to the room through humour and compassion to those who were experiencing a traumatic event.

She was an athletic woman with a lifelong love for sports and the outdoors—her journey began with figure skating, in Miramichi. After moving to Moncton with her young family, she taught aerobics at the YMCA for several years. Janice met many of her lifelong friends through sport which included softball, bowling, curling, snowshoeing, and cycling. Janice will be remembered for her love of animals, gardening, and for her generous heart—she would do anything to help her friends and family and was a wonderful sister and aunt.

Above all, she cherished spending time with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

Janice is survived by and forever missed by her husband Richard Hay; son Troy Sprague Hay (Christine); son Derek Hay (Emilie); daughter Jodie McLeod (Wesley); grandchildren Ella-Marie Lane, Eliot, Rhyen and Tilly Jane Sprague Hay, Felix Hay, Wiley McLeod; sisters Ellen May Trevors (Frank), Beverly O’Hara, Heather Davenport, Mary Elizabeth Swain along with several nieces and nephews. Janice was predeceased by her brothers Derek and Owen Swain.

A special thanks to Doctor Hudson and the nursing staff at the Mountain City Hospital.

There will be no visitation or funeral.

A private celebration of life will be held with family and friends at a future date.

Arrangements have been entrusted into the professional care of Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995).
