James Edward McGerrigle of Miramichi, New Brunswick, passed away at Percy’s Place on August 8, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born in Stenen, Saskatchewan, on June 16, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Polischuck) McGerrigle.
James travelled extensively when serving in both the Navy and the Air Force. Aircraft carriers saw him travel from the Pacific Ocean waters down through Panama and up to sunny California to Canada's Vancouver city. From Bagotville to CFB Chatham where he married, he transferred to Europe, living in Germany with a young family and travelling to beautiful Vienna and the Swiss Alps.
He had served on many Canadian bases province-wide to finally settle in Miramichi, where he built a home in the suburbs...working as a mechanic on the Voodoo CF-101 aircraft, and finally, a well-deserved retirement, where he loved gardening and sharing many memories with his family of childhood and his adventures at sea.
James is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Kingston) McGerrigle; one daughter, Kara Mercure of Miramichi, New Brunswick; one son, Kier McGerrigle (Tiffany Cuthbert) of Amherst, Nova Scotia; three grandchildren: Camilla, Cory, and Cyle; two great-grandchildren: Jordan and Elijah; one sister, Violet Dursten of Manitoba; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters: Eleanor and Evelyn; and one brother, William Jr.
As per James's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Percy’s Place would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, telephone (506) 773-3492. Additionally, messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca
