At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on March 18, 2025 George leaves behind his partner of 52 years, Peggy Quinn, siblings and their families, Donna Ruth MacCormac (Allan) d, Donald Cairns (Patti) d, Jane McLaine (Gary), Earle Cairns (Yvonne), cousin Gordon Cairns and brother-in-law John (Wendy) Quinn and family. Predeceased by his parents John and Jeanne Cairns and brother Robin. 

After a 25 year career in the military, George owned a variety of businesses in Miramichi, NB including a theatre, video store and motel until health issues forced his retirement and he and Peggy moved home to the island in 2018. A celebration of life will be held for George at the Quality Inn , 150 Euston, Charlottetown on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 2 - 4 p.m. No service by personal request.
