It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Avis Velma Dunnett of Whitney, NB at Percy’s Place on May 21, 2025, at the age of 85. She was the loving wife of the late Melvin Dunnett. Born in Whitney, NB, Avis was the daughter of the late Rundel and Beulah (Mullin) Hutchison. She was a member of Whitney Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Treasurer, and Bible Club Teacher. She also attended Calvary Baptist Church in her later years. Avis faithfully attended church services and prayer meetings throughout her life. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and reading.
Avis was the loving mother of Holden Dunnett (Laurie) of Fort McMurray, AB, and Sheldon Dunnett (Brenda) of Whitney, NB. She was also a loving grandmother to Melissa Walker (Darren) of Fort McMurray, AB, Jason Dunnett of Fort McMurray, AB, Nathan Dunnett of Miramichi, NB, and Evan Dunnett (Kandace Bannister) of Whitney, NB; and a great grandmother to Jackson, Declan, Melanie, and Daniel, all of Fort McMurray, AB, and Sophie of Miramichi, NB. Avis is survived by her sister Merica Urquhart of Strathadam, NB, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late husband, Avis was predeceased by her infant sister Anne, her brother-in-law Elwin Urquhart, and nephews Jason Urquhart and Jeremy Urquhart.
Avis’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Losier and staff at Percy’s Place for the amazing care that Avis and the family received. A special thank you is also extended to the Oncology Departments at The Moncton Hospital and the Miramichi Regional Hospital; to the Miramichi Extramural nurses and staff; to Avis’s very special caregiver, Theresa Savoie, who provided such amazing care and who developed a wonderful friendship with Avis during her illness; and to Kandace Bannister who used her nursing skills to provide loving care and support to Avis, whom Kandace referred to as her “adopted grandmother”. Words cannot express how much the family appreciates each and every one of you.
The family will receive visitors at Jardine Funeral Home on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 4-7 PM. The funeral service will be held from Jardine Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 3 PM with Pastor Matthew Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitney Baptist Cemetery.
