Alice M. Gillis, 88 of McNair Manor, Moncton, passed away peacefully within the comforts of her residence on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Born in Newcastle, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Cecilia (Richards) Dunn and the eldest of 5 siblings. Alice loved growing up on the Miramichi where she enjoyed her family, friends, and especially going to the dances.
After completing her RN Training in Moncton she went to the Victoria Hospital in Montreal to do her post-grad and began her career in the OR before working at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital and later at the Moncton Hospital 20 years.
In Moncton she met her husband, Ralph. Together they loved their children and their family cottage in Shediac, where they spent many memorable summers. Alice was an avid bridge player and a member of a club comprised of cherished friends, who met faithfully for over 50 years. Fun to be around, no one enjoyed a glass of wine and a good chat more than Alice Marie.
Alice will be sadly missed by her loving son, Jim Gillis (Sheri) of Wellington, NS; her cherished grandchildren, Haley Trenh (Danny) of Halifax, NS, Henry Gillis (Amanda) of Prospect, NS and Rowan Gillis of Wellington, NS; her sisters, Aurelia Coughlan of Ontario and Bonnie Waye (Kenny) of Saint John; many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Harold Gillis (Sept. 25, 2022); her daughter, Mary Joanne Gillis (2000); her sister, Betty Godin and her brother, Brian Dunn.
A Service to Celebrate Alice’s Life will be held from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, (506-858-1995) Moncton in May, 2025 with the date and time to be announced. Interment will be held in Stilesville Cemetery.
