It is with great sadness that the family of George “Joe” Stewart, announces his passing on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at Percy’s Place at the ripe “young” age of 91.

Dad was Born in Newcastle, the son of the late Frank and Hazel Stewart. He worked as a heavy equipment operator at Heath Steel mines, then Girouard Construction and then retired from Repap. Dad was a part time farmer most of his life and loved a good cucumber fresh out of the garden. He loved his family dearly and he loved a really good visit!

He spent many a sunny days on the Nor west fishing, and after retirement, every day in the “workshop” where he held “social club” telling stories, having a toddy and occasionally building something! There was often music and some really tall tales!

He will be deeply missed by his children: Anne Woods (David) of South Nelson, June Stewart of Saint John, Barb McFarlane (late Bill) of Saint John, Edward Stewart (Terry) of Trout Brook; grandchildren: Lesleigh Goodfellow, Lyndsey Woods, Becky Stewart, Stewart Patten, Daniel Patten, Sarah Creighton; great grandchildren: Jazmin, Ailis, Lachlan, Isla, Brighid and Maeve; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife: Mae (Corcoran) Stewart; sisters: Dawn Dunnett, Francis Matchett, Nancy Mullin; son in-law: Bill McFarlane.

The family will receive visitors at Jardine Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be held at Jardine Funeral Home on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 2 o’clock with Rev. Charlene Maguire-MacKnight officiating. Interment will follow in Wesley United Cemetery.
