This is great to see. Miramichi is a desired port of call for these types of vessels but given the state of available dockage it’s a wonder this Yacht is tied up here at all. The wharf in Chatham is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the community and should be most embarrassing to the ELECTED officials as well. There has been millions spent on waterfront development all around the Province in the last 10 years and we keep hearing the same old song, “no money for that sort of thing” (In Miramichi). When is someone that can do something about this going to recognize the potential of the waterfront.

I completely agree. This wharf is still used commercially, and is quickly reaching unsafe/unusable conditions. For an area that has come to rely heavily on tourism, there should be more interest shown towards increasing/enhancing the number of proper marina berths in the area so as to promote boat traffic. Even for locals, many boats do not have access to berths. There are waiting lists at all 3 marinas/docks on the river. Visiting boats do not have many choices for access. Boaters require fuel, food and beverages. Marinas can only add to the income of the river.

I think the marina should be looking to a “for profit” model. The right investor, the right incentives, the right help from the government sources would really make difference in the whole city. I applaud the work done by the current folks with no resources, but deeper pockets are needed, and they will only come if there is an opportunity for return.
